Back in June 2021, we first covered plans for Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods to take over the old Luby’s Cafeteria building at 1520 Airport Freeway, Bedford, TX 76022. At the time, the property was being remodeled, construction signs were up, and “coming soon” banners marked the site.
Now, we’re revisiting that story to see how the Bedford location has turned out.
What Opened Here
Spec’s officially transformed the long-vacant building into a bright, modern liquor store. The retailer’s signature mix of wines, spirits, craft beers, and gourmet foods is now stocked here, giving Bedford residents a convenient new option. It also adds to the area’s growing liquor scene, with Goody Goody Liquor just a minute away.
Customer Reviews
The Bedford Spec’s has drawn a strong response since opening, holding a 4.6-star rating across Google and Yelp reviews:

Not everyone is convinced, with some customers preferring nearby competitors:
- “The only time I patronize this location is if Total Wines in Euless doesn’t have what I need. The Specs experience is just not comparable imo.”

A Look Back at the Site
1968: Aerial imagery shows the land during the construction of Airport Freeway.
2001: Luby’s Cafeteria was still open here, serving diners before the freeway expansion.
2012: Firepit Buffet and Grill briefly operated at the site but closed within months.
Today’s Experience
Three years later, the Bedford Spec’s has firmly established itself. The store is clean, well-stocked, and praised for its staff, finally anchoring a property that sat empty for nearly a decade. From cafeterias to buffets to liquor retail, this corner has changed hands many times—but today, it’s Spec’s that defines it.
