BJ’s Wholesale Club has officially broken ground in Grand Prairie. The city announced the project on July 22, 2025, confirming the start of work on the future 100,000-plus square foot warehouse club and fuel center. The store is expected to open in 2026 as part of the Village at Gateway development.
Construction
The project spans about 106,000 square feet and includes eight fuel pumps for members. State filings list construction as beginning in mid-2025 with a projected completion in January 2026. With the July 22 announcement, the city confirmed that work on the site has started, though it remains in the early construction phase.
Location
The new store will rise at Mayfield Road and Robinson, across from the IKEA in Grand Prairie. It anchors the Village at Gateway, a major retail corridor that continues to expand with big-box tenants. The site offers direct access to major highways, placing BJ’s in a strong position within the Dallas–Fort Worth market.
Company Background
BJ’s Wholesale Club, based in Massachusetts, operates more than 240 locations across the eastern United States. The Grand Prairie store is one of the company’s first in Texas, with another planned for Fort Worth. BJ’s offers members discounted groceries, household goods, and fuel services, competing with Costco and Sam’s Club.

How the Area Has Transformed Over Time
The BJ’s site has changed drastically over the last two decades. Previously farmland, the area has evolved into a thriving retail corridor.
2001: The site was open farmland with few residential developments.
2016: Major infrastructure projects, including the George Bush Turnpike (SH 161), significantly improved accessibility.
2017: IKEA and other retailers moved in, bringing commercial growth.
2024: The BJ’s location remains undeveloped, but site preparations are underway.
This transformation highlights Grand Prairie’s rapid urbanization, with BJ’s Wholesale Club set to become one of the final additions to this bustling retail hub.

BJ’s Expansion Into Texas – A First for the State
BJ’s has traditionally focused on the East Coast and Midwest, but now targets Texas as part of its national expansion strategy. Besides Grand Prairie, BJ’s has also confirmed plans for a second Texas location in Fort Worth.
