IKEA Expands in DFW With This New Location on I-30

Construction on North Texas’s next IKEA began in April 2025, and the project is scheduled to finish in late 2025 or early 2026. The 109,000-square-foot store is rising at the northwest corner of Interstate 30 and Stodghill Road (FM 3549), giving the east side of Dallas–Fort Worth its first IKEA. It will join existing locations in Grand Prairie and Frisco.

A Glimpse into Rockwall’s History

Rockwall, founded in 1854, takes its name from sandstone dikes uncovered by settlers digging wells. Once thought to be man-made, the formation was later confirmed as natural. By the late 1800s, the railroad tied Rockwall to Dallas, boosting its role as a farm and trade center. When Lake Ray Hubbard was completed in 1969, the city’s transformation into a suburban hub accelerated.

Past and Present at the IKEA Site

The future IKEA site covers former farmland at the intersection of I-30 and Stodghill Road. To the south, Cavender’s Boot City, Rockwall Kia, and other retailers line the frontage road. Neighborhoods spread northward, while storage facilities and small businesses cluster along Stodghill. Open fields and flex space remain to the west, showing how this corridor still blends rural land with active commercial growth.

Rockwall’s Current Growth

Since 2020, Rockwall’s population has jumped more than 20 percent, driving new retail demand. The Rockwall IKEA will bring showroom spaces, a Swedish Bistro, and services such as delivery and assembly. Plans also include solar panels, EV charging stations, and water-efficient landscaping. With a smaller footprint than other DFW IKEAs, the store reflects the company’s evolving U.S. strategy while reinforcing Rockwall’s growing role as a retail hub.ntial and business location.
