Costco will soon open a new warehouse in Fruitport Township on South Harvey Street, just outside Muskegon. The development takes place on a 32-acre site that was once home to the Fruitport Golf Club. According to filings and company updates, the project began in 2024, and Costco has confirmed that the warehouse will open in October 2025.
This marks one of the company’s largest recent projects in West Michigan. It also represents Costco’s first entry into Muskegon County, reducing the need for area residents to travel to Grand Rapids for membership shopping.
Location
The Fruitport site highlights how the area has transformed over time. Historical aerials from the 1950s show farmland and scattered woodland where the warehouse now stands. By the mid-20th century, the property had become the Fruitport Golf Club, which remained in operation for decades.
In the 2020s, the course was cleared and redeveloped, making way for Costco’s new location. The property sits near I-96 and US-31, placing it in a key corridor that connects Muskegon County to surrounding communities and the lakeshore region.

Services such as gasoline, tire centers, and optical departments also drive member demand. Each new location typically attracts strong interest, and the Fruitport warehouse is expected to do the same when it opens in October 2025.
