Originally published in August 2021 under the project name “Jefferson Texas Plaza,” this post revisits the transformation of land just west of Loop 12 in Irving, Texas. The completed apartment complex is now officially called Westloop at the Diamond Interchange. Located near the former Texas Stadium site, this timeline uses Google Earth imagery to show how the area evolved from overgrowth to urban density. All screenshots were captured at a visible ground scale of 527 feet.
2001 – Forested and Forgotten Beside the Freeway
In 2001, the site was covered in thick vegetation and scattered trees, with a partial road layout in place but no development. Loop 12 and its ramps were fully operational to the east, while the nearby Texas Stadium still stood just beyond the lower right corner of the image. The surrounding land remained dormant, with no residential or commercial activity in sight.
2020 – Construction in Full Swing Across from Texas Stadium Site
By 2020, construction of the apartment complex was fully underway. Concrete slabs covered the site, and framing had begun for several buildings. The development was still labeled Jefferson Texas Plaza at the time. West of the project, residential neighborhoods had already taken shape. Across Loop 12, the cleared land from the old Texas Stadium remained undeveloped but visibly leveled.
2025 – Completed as Westloop at the Diamond Interchange
As of 2025, the complex is complete and branded as Westloop at the Diamond Interchange. The site is fully developed with residential buildings, interior roads, and parking facilities. Newer housing now surrounds the area, forming a dense pocket of development. Just across Loop 12, the former stadium site is still empty — a stark contrast to the rapid growth on the west side of the interchange.
