Coming Soon: Wegmans in Charlotte – Here’s What We Know

Wegmans officially confirmed its entrance into the Charlotte market with a new store now under construction in the Ballantyne area. The site, located along North Community House Road, was once part of the Ballantyne Golf Club and is being transformed as part of the massive “Ballantyne Reimagined” redevelopment. The store is expected to open sometime in 2026.

The Location: Former Golf Course Land on N Community House Rd

The future Wegmans sits on a 14.3-acre parcel just east of the Ballantyne Corporate Park. According to property records, Wegmans purchased the land for $15.8 million. Satellite imagery from March 2025 shows major construction work already underway, including grading, utility prep, and heavy equipment staging.

Prior to this, the area was part of the Ballantyne Golf Club, which operated until its closure in December 2020. Aerial images from 2002 through the 2010s show the exact location functioning as part of a broad fairway surrounded by wooded buffers and nearby homes along Back Ridge Road and Rock Dove Court.

The surrounding area has undergone rapid transformation, with new mixed-use buildings, trails, and greenspaces replacing the former 18-hole course.

This early satellite image shows the Wegmans Ballantyne site fully wooded with no development. The area was still untouched at the time, with only residential roads beginning to take shape on the eastern edge. This was years before the golf course or office park arrived.

Wegmans Confirms 2026 Opening on Official Site

This isn’t just a development rumor—Wegmans has listed the Ballantyne store on its official future store page, with a targeted 2026 opening date. The building will span around 110,000 square feet, making it larger than most typical supermarkets and about double the size of an average Harris Teeter.

The store will feature Wegmans’ well-known amenities, including a market café with indoor/outdoor seating, bakery, seafood and deli counters, beer and wine, and curbside pickup options.

This will be Wegmans’ first store in Charlotte and fourth in North Carolina, following Raleigh (2019), Cary, and Chapel Hill.
