A New Target Opened at Former Raley’s Site in South Lake Tahoe

A new Target store is now open in South Lake Tahoe, located at 4000 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the Tahoe Village Center. The store opened on April 13, 2025, and took over the site of the former Raley’s supermarket. This is the first Target location in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The building underwent significant remodeling following a snowstorm-related roof collapse in 2023. Target’s arrival marks a major update to this central commercial corridor.

Roof Collapse and Redevelopment Timeline

The new Target replaces the former Raley’s supermarket that had operated at the site for decades. In March 2023, a severe snowstorm hit the Sierra Nevada, producing record snowfall levels across the Lake Tahoe region. The storm caused a partial collapse of the Raley’s roof due to snow accumulation. The structural damage led to the permanent closure of the store.

The damaged structure was later repaired and remodeled for Target. The renovation included new signage, interior layout changes, and updated fixtures. The opening was confirmed in an April 2025 article by the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
