Sprouts Farmers Market will open a new location in Pittsburg, California, on June 27, 2025. The store is located at 2201 W. Leland Road, at the intersection with San Marco Boulevard. It anchors the new San Marco Commercial Center, a retail project covering 3.69 acres.
The Sprouts store will span 23,204 square feet. It will be joined by a 2,364-square-foot Starbucks with a drive-thru and a separate 6,525-square-foot multi-tenant building. The center replaces a retail gap in the area left after the closure of Food Source in 2019.
Site Evolution from 1993 to 2025
In 1993, the site was mostly undeveloped. Aerial imagery from that year shows a cluster of small buildings, trees, and dirt paths surrounded by open land. The area had no visible road infrastructure or residential development.
By 2025, the site has undergone full urbanization. The new shopping center includes paved parking lots, retail buildings, and direct road access. North of the site, a large residential neighborhood is visible. A city park and playground sit directly adjacent to the new store, indicating coordinated planning.
Commercial Growth in the San Marco Area
The San Marco Commercial Center is part of a broader push to expand services in east Pittsburg. New housing developments have increased demand for grocery and retail options in this part of the city.
Sprouts Farmers Market is among the latest national retailers to establish a presence in Contra Costa County. The new store will bring grocery access back to the San Marco area, serving nearby neighborhoods and connecting to surrounding communities through W. Leland Road and nearby highways.
