Sonic Drive-in is gearing up to launch a new outlet at 814 W Main Street, Grand Prairie. Previously the site of the demolished LUX Eye Wear building since 2018, this location is steeped in history. Main Street, slicing through downtown, hosts some of Grand Prairie’s most historic sites. Directly opposite the site, the Union Pacific train tracks mark the boundary between Main Street and Jefferson Street. The earliest aerial photographs from 1958 show the former LUX Eye Wear structure already in existence.
Originating as Top Hat in Oklahoma in 1953, the brand underwent a name change to Sonic Drive Thru in 1959 due to trademark issues. Today, Sonic boasts over 3500 outlets across the United States under the ownership of Inspire Brands, a conglomerate that owns several prominent restaurant chains. The site is expected to be ready by November 2024.
Stay tuned for further details on this new Sonic location.
