New Convenience Store to Replace This El Paso Building

El Paso is witnessing another transformation as Murphy USA plans to build a new convenience store at 1420 N Lee Trevino Drive. The location, once home to the beloved St. Michael Burritos, will soon see the demolition of the existing structure to make way for a 2,824-square-foot convenience store featuring six fuel islands.

A Glimpse Into the Past and Future

Historic aerial images show how the area has evolved over the decades. 1984 the neighborhood appeared sparse, with few buildings and vast open land. By 2020, the area had significantly developed, with commercial buildings and bustling streets reflecting El Paso’s growth. This redevelopment continues with Murphy USA’s project, which will further modernize the corner of Lee Trevino Drive.

End of an Era for St. Michael Burritos

St. Michael Burritos, a cherished family-owned restaurant known for its tradition and flavor since 1980, closed its doors permanently. While the closure marks the end of a community favorite, the new development promises to bring fresh energy to the area.

Project Details

The new Murphy USA convenience store will feature:

  • A 2,824-square-foot store with modern amenities.
  • Six fuel islands under a spacious canopy.
  • Private land use for streamlined customer access.

Construction begins in April 2025 and is expected to be completed by September 2025. This timeline suggests that the project will quickly replace the former restaurant building to minimize disruption.

Evolving Urban Landscape

The aerial views highlight the rapid urbanization of this region. The 1984 image displays a more isolated area with minimal development, while the 2020 view showcases dense commercial activity. This transformation illustrates how El Paso has adapted to meet its growing population and economic demands.
