Aby Rosen’s RFR Holding plans to construct a 20-story, mixed-use building in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The proposed structure, designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group, is expected to span 647,000 square feet. It will include 509,000 square feet for residential use and 138,000 for commercial use. The building will house 375 apartments and retail space on the ground floor, with about 100 enclosed parking spaces. The estimated cost of the project is $70 million.
The proposed building looks more like a wedding cake and will have walkable ramps plus a waterfront park. The area was rezoned in 2021 and this is one of the projects taking advantage. The development will also include features such as a terrace with a sculpture by Brooklyn artist WhIsBe, public viewing spots, and educational programming.
The property, located at 175-225 3rd Street, was initially put up for sale by RFR, but the firm later decided to develop it.
