Cancelled Target in Midtown Detroit: This is Where it Was Planned

In January 2024, Target announced it had abandoned plans to open a small-format store in Midtown Detroit, Michigan. The store was planned for the southeast corner of Woodward and Mack Avenues, covering approximately 32,000 square feet. It was part of the delayed City Club Apartments Midtown project.

While the development is still listed on the developer’s website, Target is no longer mentioned among the upcoming retailers. The apartment project is located just north of the historic Bonstelle Theatre and across the street from the new Woodward West community. If the project proceeds, Target will not be included. The images below show how the location has evolved over the years.
