How A Hurst, Texas, Roadside Lot Became This Auto-Service Center

SprawlTag first covered this Hurst auto-service site on February 21, 2020. At the time, it had recently opened as Service First Automotive along Grapevine Highway. The property has a longer story than a simple business opening. The earliest aerial image we found, from 1946, shows mostly open land. That was long before this stretch became the busy roadside corridor seen today.

By 2012, the future site was still an empty grass lot. Construction followed in 2019, and the building opened in 2020. The property later changed names from Service First Automotive to Caliber Auto Care, and then to Sun Auto Tire & Service at 701 Grapevine Hwy. The timeline captures a classic North Texas shift. This site moved from rural edge, to roadside vacancy, to a modern auto-service stop in Hurst.

In January 2012, the future Service First Automotive site was still an open roadside lot, with a real estate sign, wide grass frontage, and older neighborhood rooftops visible behind it. The image shows how undeveloped this stretch still felt before the auto center arrived, sitting along a busy commercial road but not yet carrying the driveways, parking, signage, or service-bay layout that would later define the property.

In October 2019, construction was underway, and the once-empty roadside lot had clearly entered its transformation into an automotive service center. From above, the building shell, construction vehicles, graded dirt, and new site layout show how the property was being carved into a commercial pad along the main road, while the homes and drainage channel behind it highlight the sharp edge between neighborhood life and roadside development.

By November 2024, the former Service First Automotive building was operating under the Caliber Auto Care name, showing how the site continued to evolve after its original opening. The larger transformation is still easy to read from the street: what had been an empty grass lot in 2012 had become a polished auto-service property with multiple bays, mature landscaping, steady traffic access, and the creek-side edge still tucked behind the commercial frontage.
