ALDI is bringing a new supermarket to 6902 Florida Avenue South in Lakeland, Florida. This location previously housed a Winn-Dixie in Imperial Christina Plaza for nearly 40 years. The transition marks a significant change for the shopping center, which has served the community since the 1980s.
A Look at the Site’s History
Developers constructed Imperial Christina Plaza in 1984, making it one of the area’s long-standing retail hubs. Aerial images from that year show that work was still underway. Winn-Dixie opened its doors in September 1984, becoming one of the plaza’s anchor stores. It remained in operation for decades until it closed in 2024.
In March 2024, ALDI completed its acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, which included Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations across the southeastern U.S. ALDI is converting select stores into its own brand, and this Lakeland location is part of that plan.
What’s Next for the Site
The upcoming ALDI will provide another affordable grocery option for Lakeland residents. The company focuses on low prices and a streamlined shopping experience.
Although officials have not announced an exact opening date, construction is moving forward. The new store will join two existing ALDI locations in Lakeland, giving shoppers more choices in the area.
