Last year, the Walmart at 680 Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk, Connecticut, closed due to a lease negotiation issue with the landlord and possibly poor performance. Although the store shut its doors, residents won’t have to wait long for a new shopping option. Target, Walmart’s biggest competitor, is moving into the same building. This will be the first Target store in Norwalk, saving Target-loving residents the trip to nearby Stamford or Trumbull where the nearest Target stores are located.
Historical aerial images begin to show the building in the early 1970s. Images of this part of Connecticut date back to the 1930s, and before the current structure was built, the area was mostly undeveloped with scattered buildings. Urban sprawl started to take hold in the 1960s, transforming the area.
The upcoming Target is already listed on the company’s website, but an official opening date has not yet been announced.
