The Proposed High-Speed Rail Might Have a New Dallas Station At This Location

The Texas High-Speed Rail will link the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with Greater Houston, cutting travel time between the two regions to under 90 minutes. These trains will hit speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, a significant reduction from the nearly 4-hour car trip.

The trains to be used will be based on Japan’s N700S Series Shinkansen.

If the project becomes reality, it will include three stations. One station is planned for the Cedars neighborhood in Dallas, located just southeast of the bustling Interstate 30 and Interstate 35 interchange. Today, this area remains mostly undeveloped, though it was once home to a massive refrigerated warehouse complex built in the 1940s, which was demolished in 2007.

Initially, the Texas High-Speed Rail was being developed by Texas Central, a private railroad company. Despite setbacks, including legal battles and funding issues, the Texas Supreme Court ruled in 2022 that Texas Central has the eminent domain authority to acquire land necessary for the rail line.

Fast forward to 2024, and the project is gaining renewed momentum. Amtrak has stepped in to take the lead, securing $63.9 million in federal funding to push forward the engineering, design, and environmental work. Although significant challenges remain—including securing additional funding and overcoming legal hurdles—progress is being made under Amtrak’s leadership. Business communities in Dallas and Houston remain strong supporters of the project, though its future is still being shaped.
