New Tom Thumb Is Coming to This Dallas County Town

Tom Thumb has announced the opening of a new store in Sunnyvale, located in eastern Dallas County. This 58,204-square-foot store will sit at the southeast corner of Beltline Road and East Town East Blvd. It will be part of the new Gateway Park retail center.

The store will feature a full-service grocery section and a gas station. Tom Thumb, founded in Dallas in 1948, was acquired by Albertsons in 2015. Today, the grocery chain operates over 60 stores in Texas.

The intersection at Beltline Road and East Town East Blvd borders Mesquite, drawing many Mesquite residents to shop at the new store. Historically, this location housed farm properties. However, this intersection was relatively developed compared to other parts of Sunnyvale, dating back to the 1950s.

The aerial images below illustrate the significant changes at this site over the past 22 years.

In 2001, the intersection of Beltline Road and East Town East Blvd was surrounded by open farmland and sparse development. This image shows the rural nature of the area before the construction of the Gateway Park retail center and the upcoming Tom Thumb store.
By 2023, the intersection of Beltline Road and East Town East Blvd has transformed significantly. The planned location for the new Tom Thumb store is highlighted, showing the urban development and increased commercial activity in the area.
