A new Central Fire Station is being built at 132 E. Second Street in downtown Irving, Texas. The entire project has a budget of $6.9 million and the station is expected to be operational by 2024. The station will serve primarily the Irving Heritage District. The new Central Fire Station replaces the demolished old station at the same location.
The new station will be a two-story building due to the size of the lot. It will house a fire engine and a crew of four firefighters per shift. It will feature living quarters downstairs, sleeping quarters upstairs, and fire poles for quick access to emergency vehicles. A dedicated portion of the station will house historic Irving Fire Department memorabilia, including preserved bricks and a bay door from the original structure.
The final design for the new station was selected by residents during a Town Hall meeting held on August 25, 2022.
