Target is building a new 148,000-square-foot store at the southwest corner of Hickman and Southeast Alice’s roads in Waukee, Iowa. This significant location will anchor the 62-acre Waukee Town Center, a multiphase project that will transform the area into a major hub for shopping, dining, and recreation.

As part of the first phase, alongside the Target, a new lake will be introduced. Waukee Towne Center is being developed by Pierson Companies.

Founded in 1962, Target Corporation is the 8th largest retailer in the United States. The company originally began its journey as the Dayton Dry Goods Company in Minneapolis in 1902. Subsequently, it transitioned into becoming Dayton’s, and finally, in its latest evolution, it assumed the name Target. Waukee’s upcoming Target in will add to the company’s portfolio of over 1,800 stores nationwide.

Target sells a broad range of products, from household essentials to fashion, electronics, and food. Target, notably, gains wide recognition for emphasizing affordable yet stylish product lines. It frequently partners with high-end designers to curate exclusive collections.

Location History

Historically, the site where this development is taking place was farmland. Aerial images dating back to 1939 highlight a landscape dominated by agricultural activity. This location will undergo a significant transformation, from a tranquil expanse of farmland to a bustling commercial hub, signifying the rapid growth and urbanization that Waukee has been experiencing in recent years as one of the fastest-growing cities in Iowa.
